BOSTON (October 6, 2022) – Public media producer GBH has announced Krystnell Storr has joined NOVA, the nation’s preeminent public media science documentary series, as its first-ever Science and Equity Editor.

In this role, Storr will work closely with Executive Producers Julia Cort and Chris Schmidt to develop and edit content at all stages of development and production, with a particular focus on cultural and historical accuracy, the diversity of stories and scientists featured, and the inclusion of the perspectives of historically excluded groups most affected by the science NOVA covers.

"As a public media broadcaster and producer, we take our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all our work very seriously. It’s crucial that a broad array of voices be represented and heard across the content we produce,” said Jon Abbott, president and CEO of GBH. “Krystnell Storr will help us ensure diverse audiences are equally represented in the work we do and we are thrilled to welcome her to the GBH team.”

Storr brings more than a decade of experience as a science writer and editor to this role. With a master's degree in journalism from New York University, she joins GBH from Scholastic, Inc. where she managed a social-emotional learning and healthcare magazine for high schoolers.

“NOVA is the preeminent science journalism series in the country and I’m thrilled to be onboard,” said Storr. “In this role, I’ll focus on bringing voices from diverse communities into the fold, continuing the award-winning work already being produced by the GBH team.”

“At NOVA, we believe science has enormous power,” said Chris Schmidt, Co-Executive Producer of NOVA, “and widespread engagement with scientific ideas in every community is essential for a just society. Representation is key for that engagement.”.

“This role is a significant step in achieving our commitment to help reshape the science media landscape,” said Julia Cort, Co-Executive Producer of NOVA, “by amplifying the voices of women scientists and scientists of color, and highlighting the perspectives of communities which are deeply impacted by science but have often been excluded from science reporting.”

The role was made possible by the GBH Voices and Equity Fund, a newly-established fund created to support ongoing commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion, launch innovative new work and provide support for emerging needs and opportunities.
